Real happiness comes from the cultivation, the development, of the highest that is in us. Selfishness can never bring happiness. You will not find happiness unless you search for it with a pure heart, with a clean mind, or a noble purpose, with unselfish aim and unselfish desire for the welfare of others.
There is no philosophy by which a negative mental attitude will
Produce the opposite, if you are discontented and miserable, if you always dwell upon your miseries and misfortunate, you will not be happy.
It will do you no good to chase all over the world trying to find happiness. If you do not carry it with you, you will never find it.
Many of us fail to spot the happiness that might be ours by keeping our eyes fixed on those of other people. No one can enjoy his own opportunities for happiness while he is envious of another’s. we lose a great deal of the joy of living by not happily accepting the small pleasures that come to us every day, instead of longing and wishing for what belongs to others. We can be happy with what comes our way, instead of longing for the things that come our neighbour’s way.
Happiness is your birthright. You were made to exalt in life, not to go about with a long, sad, dejected face as though you were a misfit in the world. You were made to radiate joy and to go through life as a conqueror.
